Mrs. G. W. Baker, a resident of this vicinity for more than 60
years, died at her. home,, Sunday afternoon, January 11 th,
after a long period of ill health, aged 78 years, 11 months
and 4 days.
Clarissa Phelps, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Phelps was born
at Tilsonburg, Canada., Feb. 7th, 1852. When she was 7 years old
her parents came to Michigan and settled in Dayton Township,
where she grew to womanhood. March 1st, 1870 she was united in
marriage to Mr. J. B. Richens, who preceeded her in death
February l6th, 1906. To this union two children were born, both
of whom are living.
November 30th, 1907 she was united in marriage to Mr. G. W.
Baker who still survives her. She was a devoted christian
and a member of the M. E. Church at Mayville for over 50 years.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one son Wm Richens,
of Ashtabula, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Hardy, of this
place, also one brother, Truman Phelps, of East Dayton, 11
grand children and 12 great grand children and many other
relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from
her homo Wednesday, January 16th,
Rev. D. C. Stubbs officiating with
burial in West Dayton cemetery.
