- Gustav is listed as a boarder in his house. David Palmer the "Head" of the household and the one who was the person giving the answers, was a renter paying $35 a month. Palmer should have told the census taker that Gustav was the owner, so that the census taker could put the house "value" $ amount and "O" owner next to Gustav.

- In his will Gustave, directs that his estate shall be divided into five (5) equal part and distributed to his five sons, Carl A., George L., Walter, John W., and Joseph D. Martin, his third of six sons, is not named or mentioned.
Also, When Gustav signed his will he did so with an "x". It really looks like a "t or cross". I don't know if he didn't know how to write his name or if he was too ill at the time, 1938. In the 1900 census, the census taker recorded that everyone in the family could read write and speak English including George Luther.
