- JACQUES - Wilbur G. "Dub" Jacques, age 87, of Bay City passed into the arms of the Lord on Monday, June 7, 2004 at Bay Regional Medical Center.
Wilbur George "Dub" was born in Bay City on April 2, 1917 to the late Louis Albert and Lillian Mae (Leikert) Jacques. He married Aurora Donna (Dede) Shaw on November 22, 1937 in Flint, where he was managing McIntyre's Dairy at the time.
In 1938 they made their home in Bay City where he managed another McIntyre's Dairy for five years. Dub proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was wounded in action on the island of Negros, Philippines on April 19, 1945. Numerous medals including the Purple Heart were Awarded to him.
After recuperating from his injuries at Percy Jones, V.A. Hospital in Battle Creek, MI he returned to his wife and baby daughter in Bay City where he built his dream restaurant with his brother, Merle, at the corner of 6th and Water Streets. They served many wonderful meals to the people of Bay City at Jacques Brothers Restaurant for the next 35 years until February 27, 1982. They endeared themselves to everyone with their homemade meals and desserts. Dub's happy whistling entertained many patrons over the years.
In his retirement he enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife and taking care of his home and yard. His tomatoes were the best. He had an inventive approach to solving many problems. He took delight in watching his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews grow and prosper. He adapted to the seasons of his life with grace and joy. Dub was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Disabled American Veterans, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Baytown Dance Club and Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #88 where he enjoyed playing cards, golfing and dining with his wife and friends.
Dub is survived by wife, Dede with whom he enjoyed 66 years of loving. They raised three daughters, Gretchen Ruth Jacques of Portland, OR, Kayleen Mae (Frank) Pawloski of Kentwood, MI and Minette Marie (Gary) Lefkiades of Topinabee, MI. Dub is also survived by five grandchildren, Gary A. (Karen) Lefkiades Jr., of Forest Lake, MI, Bradley M. Lefkiades of Bay City, MI, Erin M. (William) Birdsall of Midland, MI, Jacqueleen R. Pawloski of Livonia, MI, Alan V. Pawloski of Kentwood, MI; sisters, Marie Elizabeth Wilkinson of Allen, MI, Majorie Jan Olson of Bay City, MI and brother, Allan Clayton (Jeannine) Jacques of Rochester Hills, MI.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn May Jacques and Louise Aletta Kinney; brothers, William J. Jacques, Harold Albert Jacques, Clyde Louis Jacques and Merle Willard Jacques.
The family would like to thank all of the people in ICU at Bay Medical Center who lovingly cared for Dub. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 312 Lafayette Ave., Bay City, MI. The family will be present to receive friends at the Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home on Friday, June 11, 2004 from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Allan C. Kinney Award at Hope College, Holland, MI or the charity of one's choice. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment has been held at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Bay City, MI.
