| 103 | "Jacob may have been at Skoharie; one record of the Skoharie Lutheran Church reads that "Margaret Fretz. daughter of Ernest" married Jacob Frat about 1745. However Munsell's Collection of the history of Albany states Jacob Frets and Margareta Ernfrets had child Johannes baptized Feb. 20, 1757 in Albany Dutch Church. On the other hand the baptism of his son Nicholaus on Oct. 5, 1761 in Albany was recorded in Schoharie Lutheran Record. (P. 47) naming the same sponsors. There may be another interpretation of the Ernsfrets or it may be misreading of her fathers name. At any rate, if Jacob and Margaret were cousins it would not be strange in the limited choice of partners of his own nationality and Lutheran faith." - page 2 of The Frat House Published 1957 by SETH W. Wilkins, descendants of Nicholas Westcott, a pioneer in Clarendon tp., Rutland County, Vt., who reside in and adjacent to Vermont, an association was formed at Lake St. Catherine in that State in September, 1936. It received its charter for a Chapter in the following November, and in 1937, H. Phillip Westcott was made President; Leon D. Baker, Vice-President; Miss Rachel C. Wilkins, Historian; Frank N. Baker, Secretary; Nathan H. Wilkins, Treasurer. This Chapter has placed headstones at the graves of Nicholas Westcott, Jr., and his wife, Phebe Hines, thus again demonstrating one of the purposes of family organization. | WESTCOTT, Nicholas Jr. (I517)

| 107 | An ancient receipt recites that on April 21, 1712, Jeremiah , Jr. received from his father in law, John Warner, the fol lowing articles: "two y' of new silk to make a hood, one h ood redy made, one black silk hankercheef, one mixed coller ed silk hankercheef, two blue calleco aprons, two pear of w ash lether gloves, twenty-six caps, two good white hoods, a nd one old one, eleven hed bands, good as new, one half sil k handcerchee, six epttecots, fore mantes, a riding gound , a riding hood, and a cloack, six pear of good stockings,a nd a pear of old wash lether gloves, one new white hollen a pron, fore wooin (woolen) aprons, two bonnits, one new one , two peares of shoues, one wooden heels the other lether h eels, pillow and cloth and bible, one pear of stays, and on e pear of linin, one pear of wolin gloves, three peacs of e arthern ware, sisers with other nesesneary." Then "Receive d of my father in law John Warner the particulars Above nam ed I say received by me in behalfe of myselfe and brethern. " He signed "Jeremia Westcot." Old records make it seem t hat prior to 1698, one John Micater, came to what is now Ap ponaug in Warwick, and built a "Fulling Mill" on the strea m that runs from Gorton's pond to Apponaug cove. On Jan. 2 4, 1693, Jeremiah purchased the mill, one of the condition s of the purchase being that Micater should teach Jeremia h the art of fulling, and thus Jeremiah was called "weaver. " This was probably the first fulling mill in the colony . After 4 years of ownership, he sold the mill to Samuel G reene, son of Deputy Gov. John Greene, for 150 pounds. On J uly 24, 1722, he sold to Samuel Gorton, his mansion house a t Old Warwick, where he then lived and the lot of six acres . It is beleived that he spent the rest of his 35 years i n Coventry, but the records of Coventry for that time perio d are lost. source: Stukely Westcott book by J. Bullock p 156. | 134 | FROM: HANDBOOK OF HISTORICAL DATA CONCERNING LEICESTER. MASSACHUSETTS (ADOPTED MARCH 5' iQOo) ILLUSTRATED MISS ADELINE MAY, Regent of Col. Henshaw Chapter, D. A. R. DEDICATED TO ADELINE MAY REGENT OF COL. HENSHAW CHAPTER DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION AT ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY I9I2 --- Pages 29&30 In May, 1770, a company of forty-six men was formed and was drilled, to be ready for war at a minute's notice. Late in the afternoon of the nineteenth of April, 1775, the alarm was given by a messenger, riding hard, and that same afternoon, under the leadership of Captain Seth Washburn, the blacksmith, the company of Leicester's minute men were marching to battle. They halted at the house of Nathan Sargent in Cherry Valley (still standing near the top of the hill on Sargent Street), and obtained a supply of bullets which had been melted and molded from Mr. Sargent's clock weights. They arrived in time to take part in the battle of Bunker Hill, though delayed by the traitor, Dr. Church. The negro, Peter Salem, who shot Major Pitcairn, was, for many years after the war, a familiar figure in Leicester. The site of his home, on Peter Salem Street, has been marked by the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was buried in Framingham. He is a native of Rensselaer County, N.Y., and was born March 24, 1824. He is a son of John and Phoebe (CARD) SIMPSON, natives of St. John's, Canada, and of Vermont, respectively. The father was a farmer in Rensselaer County. He was a man of wealth and position, the owner of five farms, and continued too be interested in agriculture throughout his life. He was a Democrat in politics. Our subject's maternal grandparents were Abel and Electa ELDRIDGE, natives of Vermont, and farmers. They were also Democrats. Clark SIMPSON is one of a family of nine children born too his parents, five of whom are now living -- John R., Clark, Milo, Emeline and Harriet. Our subject was educated in the district schools in the town of Hoosick, Rensselaer County, N.Y. His boyhood days were spent on the farm and he lived at home until twenty years of age. He then married Miss Eliza S. DAVIS, their nuptials being solemnized October 23, 1844. She was a daughter of William and Mary (SARGEANT) DAVIS, natives of New Hampshire. The former was a farmer and had a large tract of land upon which he remained until his decease. They had nine children, seven of whom are yet living. They are William, Mary, Eliza, (Mrs. SIMPSON), Gilman, Hannah, Alfred and Merrill. Mr. DAVIS was a Democrat in politics and a prominent man in that county. His parents were natives of New Hampshire, the grandfather being a soldier in the Revolutionary War and serving all through, coming out with an honorable wound. After his marriage our subject continued farming for several years on one of his father's places, then he and his father purchased four hundred and fifty acres upon which he removed and lived their for eighteen years. He then sold it and came too the place he now lives. He purchased one hundred and forty acres in two different pieces and built a fine house where he still lives. He has devoted himself too general farming. Our subject has four children -- Deroy, May, Merritt E., and Deloss C. May is Mrs. W.Z. HUTCHISON and is the mother of three children. Mr. HUTCHISON is an apiarist and editor of the Bee-keepers' Review; Merritt married Nettie WILCOX and is the father of three children; Deloss C. married Hattie BECKWITH--his first wife, now deceased, was Mary DUFF. Mr. SIMPSON is a stanch Democrat and has held the office of School Director. He is a practical bee-keeper and has often lectured on the nature and physiology of the honey-bee. He has imported these from Italy and Syria and has paid as high as $20 for a queen, at one time having five hundred swarms. | Simpson, Clark (I1675)
