- NEWCOMB, AL - Of Spring Arbor, passed away May 20, 2011 after a brief illness, age 66.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Newcomb (husband Travis Brenden) of Webberville, MI and Karen Newcomb (friend Rocky Every) of Spring Arbor; granddaughter, Isabella Brenden; sister, Martha (Ezra) Locklear of North Carolina; brother, Ron (Cherry) Moore of Jackson; and good friend, Beverly Walker of Jackson.
He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Sandra to whom he was married for 34 years; his mother, Edith (Cummings, Newcomb, Moore) Johnson; and his brother, Merv Newcomb. Al served 32 years as a police officer and Chief of Police for Spring Arbor Township and 35 years as a volunteer fireman and Safety Director.
A memorial service will be at Parma United Methodist Church Tuesday 11:00 a.m. the Reverend Melodye Surgeon-Rider officiating. In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Al's deep love of his community, contributions may be made to Spring Arbor Township Firefighters Association P.O. Box 250 Spring Arbor, Mi 49283. www.Mlive.com/obits
The family will receive friends at the Watson Funeral Chapel Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
