Charles died of disease while serving in 23rd Infantry (Michigan) on Jan 1st 1863 at Bowling Green, KY and was interfered at the National Cemetery in Nashville. I don't know if his brother, Benjamin, knew of his brothers death, either when he is listed on a draft census in June of 1863 as a farmer in Genesee County Michigan, or when Ben enlisted in the 23rd on Sep 1st 1864 at Flint, Michigan as a Private. Ben is mustered out of the 23rd Infantry the day the unit is disbanded, June 28, 1865 at Salisbury, North Carolina.
