JOHN BUHLE (LE BUH) & KATARINA BODENHAUSEN
John Buhle came from Alsace, Lorraine. (I don't know when). According to family information John was married before (perhaps the other family was in Alsace). When his first wife died he sent for Katarina Bodenhausen to come to America and be his second wife. They had 5 children, but their youngest daughter, Emily, always said there were 13 children. I have no idea where the other 8 children were.
After John and Katarina's 5 children were born, he left the family. There must have been hard feelings as the two boys Nicholas and John would not allow their mother to attend the funeral of their father.
They lived in Brooklyn on Hester St. and the youngest daughter, Emily, was sent to Livingston to live with her sister, Henrietta, because they felt she should be out of the city and in healthy country air.
Their Children:
1. Henrietta Petronella Buhle married Dr. Bruening and had Carol who married Gerald (Jerry) Heron and they had William Heron.
2. Nicholas Buhle never married and died after 1933.
3. John Buhle never married.
4. Kate married John Guement and had Elsie and Carol Guement and maybe Louise. They lived on Long Island.
5. Emilia (Amelia?) Christina Lenora Buhle was born 25 Dec 1871. She married John Ashby Oct 1886 and died 1 Nov 1933 in San Diego, CA, while visiting her daughter, Carol.
Katherine Bodenhausen came to America from Germany on a sailing ship sometime mid 19th century, (between 1850 and 1870) with trunks full of clothes.
She spoke German with her daughters and grand daughter, Carol Heron.
I am assuming all the children were born in Brooklyn as that is where they lived.

- KATARINA BODENHAUSEN
Transcribed from Joan's story in "yellow book"
Katarina (Katherine) came to America from Germany sometime in the mid 19th century (between 1850 and 1860).
She arrived on a sailing ship with trunks full of clothes, etc. John Buhle had sent for her to be his second wife.
After all the children were born, John left them. Emily was sent to Livingston to live with her sister, Henrietta to get the fresh country air and this is where she met John Ashby.
Katarina spoke German with her daughter Henrietta, and her daughter, Emily and her grandaughter, Carol.
Some of our family sayings come from this, such as ginderfoot, grosmudder (Grossie), etc.
I am assuming all the children were born in Brooklyn as that is where they lived.
