- This was refered to as the "shack" in the orange grove that they lived in when they first moved to California in July 1944.I found a card sent to the address on March 23rd 1945, I hadn't realized they lived there for so long.
Although I do remember stories of going to Brand Park to cook out on the grills there because they had no stove. Also, Daisy did a bunch of work on the "shack" putting un screens and sealin holes to keep the bugs and the mice out.

We all had a good time. Except she didn't like the trip out of Oatman through the Sitgreaves Pass! It's the way she came to California in '44. It is part of the "old" Route 66. It's a hairy drive up and over the Black Mountains of Mohave County, in Arizona, with lots of hairpin turns and cliffs. She was excited about taking that way to see it again. There was a story of Cortez throwing things out to lighten the load, and Pat and Randy thought that might have been when that happened. We took Hwy 10 home!
